On June 7, the Santa Cruz SPCA and Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter will again join dozens of shelters across the nation for the annual Adopt-A-Pet Day.

As California shelters struggle with an overcrowding crisis, the event aims to find homes for at least 5,000 animals in a single day.

As an incentive, both local shelters will offer fee-waived adoptions that day for animals that are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals will cover adoption fees. Read more
