Butte Humane Society is gearing up to host a fee-waived adoption event on June 7.

Officials say the event is part of the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day.

According to the California Animal Welfare Association, more than 150 shelters across the state will participate. The aim is to find loving homes for 5,000 pets.
