The Chico Animal Shelter is gearing up to participate in the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day on Saturday, June 7.

Officials say that the event will feature fee-waived adoptions from noon to 4 p.m. at the shelter on Fair Street.

According to the California Animal Welfare Association, the initiative is part of a larger effort involving more than 150 animal shelters across the state. The goal is to find loving homes for 5,000 pets. Read more
